The IUCN EU Liaison Office
The European Union (EU) is one of the key players on the world stage since its Member States form the largest economy in the world. It is the world’s largest bilateral and multilateral trading partner and the largest provider of public aid to developing countries. The overseas territories of some of its Members reach out to all corners of the globe.
The European Union Liaison Office – part of IUCN’s Regional Office for Pan Europe – represents IUCN as a whole to the EU and provides the IUCN secretariat and constituency with up-to-date information on EU policies, legislation and funding programmes regarding nature conservation and development cooperation.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The IUCN EU Liaison team is looking for a highly motivated intern for a period of 6 months to assist with various activities and the daily functioning of the EU Liaison Office. Under supervision of the Head IUCN Representation and the EU Liaison officer, the intern will have the following responsibilities:
Main tasks:
• Provide assistance to the Head IUCN Representation to the EU
• Provide assistance to the EU Liaison Officer
• Participate, on request, to external meetings and report back to the office
• Participate in the daily functioning of the office, including administrative tasks.
Key qualifications
• A keen interest in and basic understanding of issues relating to the conservation of biodiversity
and EU policy making
• Studying towards a university degree
• Good organizational, administrative, reporting and communication skills
• A motivated self-starter with an ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
• A team player with a strong interest to work in an international environment
• Excellent written and spoken English skills with a good understanding of French
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
What we offer
The internship is unpaid but € 600 per month will be provided for living costs. Candidates must be registered students with an academic institution for the full duration of the internship and should have EU citizenship, or otherwise be in the possession of a work permit. This is a challenging and interesting opportunity to work with a dynamic international organization in nature conservation.
